CHRIS MILLERCoach - 5 Years

The notions of mechanics, consistency and intensity create a perfect foundation for human movement and are concepts that have always resonated with me, even before I began utilizing the CrossFit training method. As a previous athlete, competing as a wrestler and with a short stint as a rugby player, I’ve learned to never underestimate or devalue (in myself or others) the benefits of hard work, repetition of movement and practice. During my career, I discovered the power of intensity and its ability to produce lasting physiological and neurological change. As I was able to break through what I had always considered my limits in athletics, I similarly recognized my capacity to the same academically. Challenging and pursuing my better self is a conviction that I adopted a long time ago and something that permeates all aspects of my life and is now a part of who I am.

I found out about Crofton CrossFit while finishing up my senior year at the University of Maryland. At the time, I was working at Pivot Physical Therapy and happened to meet the owner Garrett Smith, who was rehabbing a knee injury. The day I joined CCF I was welcomed into a community like no other; I was welcomed into a family. The members and coaches not only made me feel at home, they reignited a fire and passion that I thought I had lost after ending my wrestling career years previously.

For me, CrossFit represents the most holistic and organic training program there is. As a CrossFit member and athlete, I am healthier, happier, and more fit than I have ever been. Having gained so much from CrossFit, I want nothing more than to give back and help pass on my knowledge and experience to our athletes in every session. I enjoy the energy of the group environment and love to coach—but more than anything, I love to see our athletes do things that they did not think possible, to challenge their notions of what they can achieve, and to make a difference in their lives both inside and outside of the gym.

In addition, my B.S. in Kinesiology from UMD and my vast experience working as a Physical therapist technician (with aspirations to achieve my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in the near future), I strive to make sure that our athletes train in a effective but safe environment, and work to prevent injuries before they occur.
