Gillian grew up in northern New Jersey and would always join local rec soccer teams but never really enjoyed sports or physical fitness. It wasn’t until she attended American University in Washington, DC did she truly develop her passion for competitive sports and training. At American University she joined the Crew team and began her commitment to physical training and conditioning. This decision presented a number of challenges, a general physical overhaul was necessary if she was going to be able to contribute to the success of the team. The work to develop strength, endurance, and mental toughness began; slowly, incrementally her focus and confidence changed. Part of the conditioning for the crew team was running, which eventually lead to her new passion of endurance training and competing in races. Wanting more diversity in her training, she dragged herself to her first CrossFit class a year-and-a-half ago where she realized the potential CrossFit had on her fitness goals. Since starting she has been able to run faster and longer, which enabled her to reach her goal of finishing her first full marathon in 2013. Along with CrossFit, Gillian continues to regularly race and lives with her husband and giant dog.
